MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Saturday accused the BJP government at the Centre of trying to control the ruling AIADMK government according to its “whims and fancies”.
Asked whether the Central government was intimidating the State, Mr. Vaiko told reporters here that he would not use the word “intimidation.” “The Centre has not respected the sentiments and expectations of the people of Tamil Nadu. It is exerting pressure and the activities of State Ministers show that,” he said.
The Sri Lankan government was continuously harassing and arresting the Tamil Nadu fishermen for fishing in their traditional areas. But the Centre had not given the issue the attention that it deserves and had not exerted diplomatic pressure on the island nation. The Centre was following discriminatory approach when it comes to issues concerning Tamil Nadu, he charged.
To a question on the perceived “lack of governance” in the State after the demise of Jayalalithaa, Mr. Vaiko said that no Minister had come out in open on any issue till Jayalalithaa was alive. Now, everyone was rushing to the press for each and everything.
