AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa on Monday wanted the Central government to initiate action against the ruling DMK in the State for the violence on the High Court premises on Sunday.
In a statement she said the violent incidents took place at the High Court in the presence of the Supreme Court Chief Justice and Union Law Minister.
Those DMK men involved in the violence should be brought to book and penalised.
The State government should provide compensation to the affected lawyers, journalists from both print and television media and the State should also bear the medical expenses for them, she said.
When the incidents happened in the presence of Director-General of Police Latika Saran, the police were a mute spectator and no effort was made by the police to control it, she charged.
Condemning the attack, MDMK general secretary Vaiko said it was aimed at threatening the members of the media and the police filed cases against those who were attacked.
Credibility at stake
There is no protection for human rights in the State, he said, and warned that if there was no action against the police it would affect the credibility of the police force.
