“Centre has scant regard for Tamils’ sentiments”

March 03, 2014 01:23 pm | Updated May 19, 2016 05:58 am IST - CHENNAI:

DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Sunday said the decision of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to meet Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa in Myanmar proved that India had scant regard for the sentiments of Tamils.

Meeting

The leaders of both the countries are scheduled to meet during the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) summit to be held on March 4. “I am not able to understand why the Congress and the Central government are behaving in this manner,” he said in a statement.

Mr. Karunanidhi said the Supreme Court had stayed the release of three convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case because the Tamil Nadu government had not adopted proper legal means while deciding to release all the seven convicts.
