August 09, 2013 02:47 am | Updated December 04, 2021 11:38 pm IST - SALEM:

A six-member team from the Anti Corruption Wing of CBI from New Delhi raided the house of M.P. Velusamy (63), former Deputy General Manager, BSNL, Chennai, at his residence in Suramangalam here on Thursday.

The team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar conducted the raid for about eight hours and seized documents. Since Mr. Velusamy and his family were away and the house was found locked, the team borrowed the house key from the tenant and conducted the raid. Mr. Velusamy is said to be in the United States with his son. The team pasted a notice on the door asking Mr. Velusamy to contact the CBI after his return.

He had served as Deputy General Manager in Salem and was transferred as General Manager to Chennai. He retired from service three years ago.

Correction

The penultimate sentence of the report, “CBI raids former BSNL DGM residence in Salem” (August 9, 2013, some editions), read: “He [M.P. Velusamy] had served as General Manager in Salem before getting promoted as DGM in Chennai.” Actually, he served as Deputy GM in Salem and was transferred as GM to Chennai .
