CBI inquiry sought into A.P. killings

PMK leader Dr.Anbumani Ramadoss has demanded a CBI inquiry into the encounter killings in Andhra Pradesh forests that claimed the lives of 20 Tamil Nadu men.

Speaking on the sidelines of his visit to Arasnatham village in Paapireddypatty in Harur on Monday, after meeting with victims’ families, the PMK leader called for a CBI inquiry to unearth the truth behind the killings.

According to Dr.Anbumani Ramadoss, people here were devoid of livelihood opportunities or basic amenities including road or potable water. It was against such a backdrop that the poor tribals were pushed out in search of livelihood opportunities elsewhere. The Tamil Nadu Government had failed to ensure livelihood opportunities for the poor, he said.

Close on the heels of PMK’s announcement that it would the foot the bill for education of the wards of the victims killed in the Andhra Pradesh police encounter last week, Dr.Anbumani Ramadoss said he would take measures to provide potable water, road facilities and a cell phone tower for the area.

He also called for swift action by the Government to enable the release of over 2,500 prisoners lodged in Andhra Pradesh jails on the charge of smuggling.
