A day after Union Chemicals and Fertilizer Minister Ananth Kumar said there was no proposal to set up the Cauvery Management Board, DMK chief M. Karunanidhi on Sunday urged the Tamil Nadu government to call an all-party meeting over the issue.

“It is very very necessary that Jayalalithaa calls for an all-party meeting over setting up the Cauvery Management Board, at a time when the future of kuruvai (short-term) crops has a question mark,” Mr. Karunanidhi said in a statement.

He also referred to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s statement that he would meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 10 along with a delegation drawn from all parties in the state.

Ms. Jayalalithaa had strongly pitched for the Cauvery Management Board during her meeting with Mr. Modi last week, but Mr. Siddaramaiah had opposed it.
