Following incessant rain for the past two days, the volume of flood waters flowing into the Cauvery has touched 1 lakh cft on Sunday.

As a precautionary measure people living on the banks and low-lying areas were asked to move to safer places, says releases from District Collectors V. Arun Roy in Krishnagiri and R. Ananthakumar in Dharmapuri.

The water flow touched the 50,000 cft on Saturday midnight and increased to 1 lakh cft in the afternoon.

An order banning operation of coracle services and bathing in the falls has been issued in Hogenakkal. With rain continuing in both the district for the past two days, many water bodies have filled up. Excess water from the Krishnagiri Reservoir Project dam was released on Saturday, as the level reached 51 ft, against its full level of 52 ft.

Many roads and low-lying areas were flooded in the two districts.

Government and aided schools and government colleges in the districts will remain closed on Monday, the released added.
