The Central Administrative Tribunal, Madras Bench has rejected a plea to quash a selection process of Ordnance Factory Board for direct recruitment of 295 fitters to Heavy Vehicles Factory, Avadi.
The Bench, comprising its members B. Venkateswara Rao and D. Prabakaran, dismissed the application filed by S. Ramu of Ambattur as it was devoid of merit since he did not apply for the post in question.
Ramu, a diploma holder of Industrial Training Institute, submitted that he had registered his name with employment exchange. He contended that the Board had not given wide publicity and had not called for candidates from the employment exchange for filling up 295 vacancies in 2011.
Hence, he could not participate in the selection process despite being fully qualified.
However, the Board said it gave wide publicity and a requisition was also sent to the District Employment exchange, Tiruvallur to sponsor eligible candidates. The applicant had not applied to the post.
Dismissing the application, the Bench said, “The receipt of 37,000 applications by the Board would show that wide publicity had been given by it. Further, the District Employment Exchange was also requisitioned to sponsor candidates. Admittedly the applicant did not apply for the post in question. Hence, he cannot question the action of the Board.”
