Cash returned

The election machinery has returned Rs. 6.62 crore, which was seized by the personnel of the flying squads and static squads, to the legitimate owners following the production of documents.

While the model code of conduct was in effect in the district, the flying squad and the static squad personnel conducted surprise vehicle checks in all the eleven constituencies in the district and seized Rs. 7,46,55,824, which was carried by the people without proper documents. The money was deposited in the district treasury and sub-treasuries.

The Income Tax officials were intimated about the seizure of Rs. 10 lakh and above.

The officials also seized 105 sets of silver anklets and 433 cookers.

An officials press release issued here on Tuesday said that cash Rs. 6,62,71,830 seized by the officials was returned to the owners after they produced the relevant documents. Relevant documents were not produced for the rest Rs. 83,83,994.

The Income Tax Department officials are conducting enquiries about this money. Further, the silver anklets and the cookers remain with the officials, as no one came forward to claim the same, the release added.
