Following a complaint from Hindu Munnani town secretary Suri, the Rajapalayam South police and the Chennai police registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code against lyricist Vairamuthu here on Saturday. The charge is that Mr. Vairamuthu had allegedly spoken ill of goddess Andal at a function held in Rajapalayam on January 7.

Participating in a function organised by Dinamani in Rajapalayam, the lyricist had made a reference to Andal being described as ‘dasi’.

Cases were booked against him and Dinamani editor K. Vaidyanathan at the Chindripet, Kolathur and Tambaram stations. They were forwarded to the Virudhunagar police station for further action.
