Programme against nuclear plant was organised on World Fisheries Day
Cases have been registered against anti-Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) struggle committee convener S.P. Udhayakumar and 2,000 others for trespassing into the premises of the nuclear power project from sea on Monday.
The protesters had announced that the fishermen, as part of the World Fisheries Day observed on November 21, would venture into the sea in the boats and stage demonstration against the KKNPP.
Hoisting black flags in around 600 boats, the protesters, including a number of women from the coastal hamlets of the district, staged demonstration in the sea against the project. While returning to the shores, the protesters entered the dyke, a prohibited area of the KKNPP, and raised slogans.

Thanks Mr Ramaswami Kumar for your reply against the dangerous nuclear power plant based on your research. Some readers think that nuclear power plant is the need of the hour. If nuclear power plant is safe; will not cause any deadly diseases; will not affect lives of other organisms, why Dr Kalam himself advocates to establish a Nuclear SAFETY Institute and calls for the govt to concentrate on more wind mills and solar power?
It is Prasad's kind of empty but officialese rhetoric of lies that is typical of modern civilization's bedrock of falsehoods. Please do your homework Prasad. It's not for nothing that a whole lot of people are ranged against ignoramuses like you. Make a sensible energy audit of nuclear power programmes like I have done or scores of others have done and come to the unambiguous conclusion that this nuclear power programme that not deliver energy to society after consuming everything required by it.Google search and See the complete profile under Ramaswami Ashok Kumar, study my work and then have the courage to go against Mahatma Gandhi: given enough time modern civilization will destroy itself. The Fukushima genie has come out and there is no more space. Beware of extreme danger even to countless generations as has happened in Chernobyl and is being played out by fast breeding Fukus.
I strongly support & share the opinion of Mr. Narayan above. For the last 10 years, there was no fear whatsoever, even after Fukushima happened in March 2011. But all of a sudden, just when the plant is to be operational, the vested interests surfaced & started poisioning the minds of innocent villagers & fishermen!. As rightly commented by expert panel,THE FEAR IS NOT BASED ON ANY SCIENTIFIC FACTS. Every villge, town & city in Tamilnadu is reeling under unprecedented power cuts & Kudankulam would have solved this problem, yet our self styled leaders of anti-nuclear movement are consistently spreading the rumours/falsehood on radiation & fishing in troubled waters. Pl be aware, as per all scientifically available data, the Nat.Radiation due to sun & minerals in soil etc.. is there everywhere & whatever radiation emitted by nuke plants is not even fraction of that! Let's not unduly worry about this; else, as Mr. Narayan rightly said above, let's all get ready to face dark / stone!
This sounds crazy! Can't the Government differentiate between 'enemies' and dissidence of helpless citizens? Too strong and disproportionate accusations make it clear that the Government wants to curb all the democratic freedom. This action downs the veil of the dictatorship face of the Government.
After seeing all the protests I am concluding one thing that it will be difficult for India to get developed. The central panel who are all the experts from respective fields and even Mr. Kalam who had born and brought up from the same area vouched for its safety. Even then the locals are not getting convinced. Let us all go back to stone eat grass and live like that. I feel sorry for the state of affairs.
Obviously we are living under a dictatorship. People have no right to
protest against a dangerous industry trying to establish itself in the
vicinity. The government lacks imagination in installing safe,
renewable technologies to provide electricity but it sure has plenty
of ideas cooking up all sorts of charges against the people of Tamil
Nadu when forcing it's Xerox mentality on the people of this country.
Yes unfortunately we have leaders who are just Xerox machines that
only know how to copy and print out what the white man doles out in
the form of inherently dangerous and banned technologie of developed
nations. Yet our culture is older than theirs and Asians students are
the brightest and best. I wonder why our brilliant Mr. Banarjee cannot
be an innovator and put together a project that utilizes the sun's
heat to boil the water for the plant's turbines. Surely with his
expertise in the atomic composition of materials he could put out an
original page for western nations to copy!
Fake organized protests and preplanned non-arrest cases against the protest organizers. People's tax money is went to drain.
The action of the govt is highly illegal, illegitimate and anti national. If protesting for life, livelihood, safety and security of not only of this generation but generations to come is "waging war against Indian Union" what action should be taken against the govt which once gave safe passage to Anderson after he killed tens of Thousands of Indians, which is now bent upon to put millions of people under risk to go ahead with its agenda of neuclear weapons in the name of providing electricity to us?
One expects little else from Indian Governance. While peaceful off shore protestors are "Waging war against the Indian Union", not a word will be raised against the Sri Lankan Navy blowing Indian fishermen to smithereens or Chinese and Pakistani soldiers marching all over Indian territory. "Exploit and crush the poor and helpless. Bend over for the rich and powerful."
