The Tiruchi city police have registered a case against Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) leader Seeman and a few party functionaries in connection with a clash between cadres of the NTK and the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) at the airport recently. The NTK leader has also been booked for participating in an unauthorised meeting at Kadiramangalam in Thanjavur district last week.

The clash at the Tiruchi airport occurred on Saturday morning when cadres of the MDMK and the NTK came there to receive party leaders Vaiko and Seeman respectively. P. Subramanian, 61, an MDMK member from Manapparai, sustained injuries in the incident. Police sources said the cadres of both parties “assembled unlawfully” at the airport, assaulted each other and committed affray in a public place. They were also accused of damaging barricades and motorcycles and preventing a Sub Inspector from discharging his duty. The Airport police filed a case against Mr. Seeman, 13 NTK functionaries and six MDMK cadre on a complaint by Sub Inspector Paulraj, attached to the Golden Rock police station, under sections 147 (rioting) 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapon) 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 160 (committing affray) of the Indian Penal Code, and section 3 of the Tamil Nadu Property (Prevention of Damage and Loss) Act.

In the second case, filed on the basis of a complaint preferred by MDMK urban district secretary R. Somasundaram, Seeman and seven NTK cadre were booked under sections 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the IPC.

The Pandanallur police has filed a case against 26 persons for conducting an unauthorised meeting at the Ayyanar temple complex in Kadiramangalam village in Thanjavur district on May 19. Based on a complaint by Mullukkudi Village Administrative Officer Selvaraj, the police booked them for organising the meeting on the occasion of the 365th day of the protest by Kadiramangalam villagers, who have been demanding the ouster of oil major ONGC from their village.
