Mohideen Khan forgets to bring his papers with him

Two candidates filed their papers to contest from Srivaikundam Assembly constituency on the first day of filing of nominations on Friday.

S. Selvaraj (56) of Naduvakurichi, the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate, filed his nomination papers with Tahsildar S.S. Selva Prasath. A. Ram Mohan (41) of Vijayaramapuram filed his papers as a BJP dummy candidate.

In his affidavit, Mr. Selvaraj declared assets worth Rs. 5,37,802 in his name and Rs. 4,05,000 in his wife’s name. He also declared assets worth Rs. 10,000 each on his three sons.

Mr. Ram Mohan, in his affidavit, declared assets worth Rs. 1.92 lakh in his name and Rs. 7.60 lakh in his spouse’s name, sources said.

No candidate filed papers for Thoothukudi, Kovilpatti, Tiruchendur, Vilathikulam and Ottapidaram constituencies in the district.

Tirunelveli

In Tirunelveli district, six candidates filed nomination papers. T.P.M. Mohideen Khan (68), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate for Palayamkottai constituency, filed his nomination paper with Tirunelveli Corporation Commissioner S. Sivasubramanian.

Mr. Mohideen Khan forgot to bring his nomination papers and other documents with him, sources said. Mr. Khan, accompanied by cadres of the DMK, Congress, Indian Union Muslim League and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi, entered the corporation premises around 1.30 p.m.

He had to wait for more than an hour to get his nomination papers. Finally, he filed it around 2.50 p.m. However, no affidavit was attached to declare his assets.

The Election Officer issued a letter asking the candidate to submit necessary documents giving the value of his assets before 3 p.m. on April 29.

Later, talking to reporters, Mr. Khan said that his party cadres would extend their cooperation to ensure his victory.

In Sankarankovil (Reserved), DMK candidate G. Anbumani (44) filed his nomination.

Anti-nuclear activist P. Udhaya Kumar (53) filed his nomination to contest from Radhapuram.

He will contest on a ‘Patchai Tamizhagam’ ticket this time.

In Tirunelveli, independent candidate M. Thalapathi Murugan (41) filed his nomination. J. Jaffer Ali (36), a candidate of the Social Democratic Party of India , filed his nomination to contest from Kadayanallur. M. Kapoor (65) filed his nomination as an independent candidate in the same constituency.
