A farewell gift

Cultural programmes, planting of saplings, and felicitation of students who won in various competitions formed part of the valediction celebrations organised at the Anbil Dharmalingam Agricultural College and Research Institute at Navalur Kuttapattu recently. A group discussion was held in which students exchanged their experience on the campus. P. Pandiyarajan, Dean of the Institute, said the institute organised various programmes to encourage students take to research.

He said that the college has taken up an experiment on raising paddy using drip irrigation technique. “This is the first time that the research has been taken up on this campus,” he said. A group of outgoing students planted saplings on the occasion.

Training for

college teachers

The Faculty Development Programme for the even semester 2016-17 was held at the Vailankanni Arts and Science College, Thanjavur, recently in which founder CEO, Startup Solutions, Chennai, Rosy Fernando, a certified Corporate Trainer and a Recipient of the Malalala Award for Extensive Service to Society instituted by the Society for Rights of all Women with Disabilities, was the Resource Person.

The programme focussed on learner-centred teaching skills, teacher as a facilitator and lifelong learner and making the teaching-learning a pleasant and memorable experience by integrating the elements of creativity, wonder, exploration, group activity and fun. The sessions were lively, interactive, and participatory and facilitated department-specific action plans. Principal P. Devanesan welcomed the gathering and introduced the Resource Person while Correspondent Rev. John Joseph Sundaram offered felicitations and Administrator Rev. Arockiadass coordinated the arrangements.

NCC training camp

Over 500 boys and girls from 11 colleges and 13 schools in Tiruchi, Karur and Perambalur districts participated in the combined annual training camp conducted by the 2 TN Battalion NCC at Bishop Heber College. Drill, firing, best cadet, group song, group dance, and national integration awareness events were conducted.

The camp featured sessions on leadership qualities and demonstration of Fire and Rescue operations. Preliminary selection of cadets for participation in the 2017 Republic Day parade in New Delhi was conducted. Bishop Heber College and Arignar Anna Government Arts College, Musiri, were given prizes for their excellent performance in drill, while Urumu Dhanalakshmi College and St. James Higher Secondary School, Palakurichi, bagged prizes in cultural programmes.

Suresh Frederick, Dean, IQAC, Bishop Heber College, distributed prizes in the presence of Col. K.B. Jairaj, Commander, NCC Group, Tiruchi, Lt. Col. Jubin Mathews, Camp Commandant, Major Vadivel, Captain N.S. Sivakumar, Captain F.S. Muzammil, and Lt. K. Premkumar.

Police get trained

in computers

Under the auspices of the Department of Computer Applications of J.J. College of Arts and Science, a two-day computer training programme, was organised for police personnel. Ninety police personnel underwent computer training.

J. Parasuraman, Principal, in his inaugural address, emphasised the importance of computer skills for higher efficiency. M. Kavitha, sub-inspector of police, and T. Sathya Devi, sub-inspector of police, highlighted the application of computers in the police administration. S.J. Sathish, head of the Department of Computer Applications, and R. Manimaran, Head , Department of Information Technology, said that the training had been designed in consultation with the police to suit their needs.
