Eleventh hour frenzy marked campaigning by political parties and their candidates as electioneering peaked to fall silent in Thanjavur district at dusk on Saturday.
Thanjavur Assembly constituency AIADMK candidate and MLA M. Rengasamy along with his supporters made a last-ditch effort to garner more votes. He claimed that in the past five years he had brought in various infrastructure development work in the constituency estimated at Rs. 1,880 crore.

They included work on Santha Pillai Gate rail bridge, second stretch of bypass, Mariamman Koil rail bridge, elevation of Thanjavur as a municipal corporation, new chariot to the famed Big Temple that was run after a 100 years, new collectorate and district police offices, new housing units at Pillayarpatti, improvements to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital, Rajah Mirasdar Hospital, new bus routes and so on.
For the glorious era to continue, he exhorted the electorate to vote for “Two Leaves”.
On the other hand, the DMK candidate Anjugam Bhoopathy went round the town along with her party cadre and supporters urging the people to end the AIADMK misrule of the past five years and to ensure a new dawn for the people. Other candidates, including the DMDK's V. Jayaprakash, PMK's G. Kunjithapadham, M.S. Ramalingam of the BJP, and A. Nalladurai of the Naam Tamizhar Katchi too made a last-minute pitch for soliciting more support. Candidates took out rallies on two-wheelers and cars to highlight their presence else where in the district too.
