Call to continue with old parking fee

The Salem Junction Auto Drivers Amaippu Sara Nala Sangam has urged the Salem Railway Division to continue with the old parking fee of Rs. 100 per month for the auto stand at Junction.

The Railway division recently announced a parking fee of Rs. 1,800 for every six months for the autos attached to the Junction auto stand.

The auto drivers are already suffering due to steep hike in the price of petrol and diesel, poor patronage. The Railways considering the poor financial position of the auto drivers should continue with the old parking fee of Rs. 100 per month, a resolution adopted at a meeting of the Sangam held here recently said.

Toilet facilities

Another resolution demanded restroom with toilet facility for the auto drivers at the Junction auto stand. In the absence of toilet facility, the auto drivers have to depend on pay ‘pay and use’ toilets. The meeting also demanded free treatment for auto drivers at the Railway Hospital.
