Government departments differ with regard to standards for determining poverty-level, Mythili K. Rajendran, Managing Director and Principal Secretary, Tamil Nadu Rural Livelihood Mission, said in Krishnagiri on Tuesday. At the coordination meeting convened to explain implementation of ‘Vision 2023’ through the Livelihood Mission, officials from different departments explained the yardstick for calculating the poverty-level for extending help under welfare schemes, being implemented by various departments.
Ms. Mythili said that the determination of poverty-level should be uniform in all the departments.
She also said that it was not right to come to the conclusion that poverty had been eradicated through welfare schemes implemented so far.
She expressed concern over the female population ratio being 942 females per thousand males, in rural areas in the district.
She said that the district was lagging behind in human resource.
Efforts to improve income generation of individuals, and ensure availability of food, clothing and a place to live for all people, were the mottos of the Livelihood Mission, she said.
Collector T.P. Rajesh presided over the meeting.
Additional Director, Tamil Nadu Rural Livelihood Mission; V. Shajeevana; Sub Collector Praveen P. Nair; Joint Director of Mahalir Thittam K. Ramiah; and Project Manager of Pudhu Vazhvu Scheme K. Kumaran were among those who participated in the coordination meeting at the Collectorate.
