A group of call taxi drivers dissatisfied with taxi aggregators, including Ola and Uber, is planning to launch a new app soon. For sometime now, call taxi drivers have been complaining that they were suffering huge losses due to un-remunerative fares.
The proposal to launch a new app was announced at a meeting in the city on Thursday.
K. Thamizharasu, member, Friends of Driver Group, complained that neither the State government nor the call taxi aggregators had taken any step to address their grievances.
A company had come forward to create a software application for the taxi drivers, Mr. Thamizharasu said. In a situation where the autorickshaws were charging ₹12 per km, the call taxi owners/drivers, having spent huge capital amount, were forced to drive the vehicles for the taxi aggregators for as low as ₹3 per km.
