Call for unity among trade unions

Speakers at a function on Saturday stressed the need for bringing together all the trade unions under one roof to fight for the cause of labourers.

Speaking after inaugurating a new building for All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) in Chintadripet here Gurudas Das Gupta, All India General Secretary, AITUC said it was a great occasion to have a building for a trade union, which was built with the money provided by the workers. It spoke of the honesty, integrity and uncompromising attitude of Trade Union leaders in the State, he said.

Talking about the national strike on September 7 this year, he said it reflected the unity among various trade unions in the country. It was organised to protest against price hike of various commodities. The AITUC would continue its efforts to unite all trade unions. The office would strengthen the trade union movement. Resolving the labour issue in the Neyveli Lignite Corporation was a shining example of victory for the unity among different trade unions with different political affiliations, he added.

R. Nallakkannu, veteran CPI leader, said the trade unions should work for the overall welfare and they were meant for community development and to create revolution in the society.

D. Pandian, State Secretary, CPI, said the trade union leaders should take a vow to create a Government by the trade unions.

R. Kuselar, president, WPC, Saidai K.V. Siva, State president PTS and K. Subbarayan, State president AITUC were among those who spoke on the occasion.
