A businessman killed his seven-year-old son by cutting his vein before attempting suicide in K.K. Nagar on Friday.

The police said Urmil Dolia, a native of Gujarat, was running a mobile service centre on P.T. Rajan Salai. Due to ill health, he was not going to his shop for the last few days. On Friday night, he asked his workers to close the shop early and went home. However, he informed his wife that he was returning to the shop with his son. As Dolia did not return for a long time, his wife sent a worker to the shop.

The worker found Dolia’s bike parked in front of the shop and the shop locked from inside. He informed the Vadapalani police, who broke open the door and found the boy lying in a pool of blood. Dolia was lying unconscious.

Man stable

The boy died before reaching the hospital, while Dolia’s condition is stable. Dolia had taken the extreme step as he was unable to settle mounting debts.
