Bus tragedy: axe falls on three officials

January 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - ANANTAPUR:

Cracking the whip a day after the killer APSRTC bus took the lives of 14 young students and another person in the ghastly road accident, the government suspended two officials of the Roads and Buildings Department and Madakasira RTC depot manager.

The charge against the R&B engineers -- E. Srinivasulu and D. Nagaraju -- was that they failed to take adequate safety precautions in the work relating to double-laning of the ghat road between Madakasira- Penukonda while the one against depot manager, Suryanarayana, was of negligence.

CPI district secretary Jagadish demanded that the accident be investigated from the angle of the laxity on the part of the R&B officials. YSRC president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy demanded that the government make sure contractors for such critical projects were selected based on their professional qualifications and not political affiliation.
