Bull race triggers group clash, tension

The rival groups throw stones at each other; 20 persons arrested

A bull race held in Adhamangalam Pudur and Kettavarampalayam led to a scuffle between Scheduled Castes (SC) and Vanniyars on Sunday.

Following this, the police were deployed in the villages to prevent a clash and 10 persons from each group were arrested.

According to police, the bull race was held in Adhamangalam Pudur and Kettavarampalayam near Kadaladi on Sunday.

The two groups had brought their bulls to the race.

A scuffle broke out between the two groups over catching the bulls.

Subsequently, tension spread to the villages. The two groups started to throw stones at each other. However, the police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Superintendent of Police R. Ponni and Additional Superintendent of Police M. Rangarajan went to the spot.

An official said 20 persons from both sides were arrested and remanded. About 20 police constables have been deployed at the spot to prevent untoward incidents.
