President Pranab Mukherjee urged the youth to bring about a change in its fortune.
Addressing students at the 159th founder’s day celebrations at the Lawrence School in Lovedale on Tuesday, Mr. Mukherjee said: “my generation and the generation that has followed have set the wheel of fortune spinning and it is for you youngsters to take it to its logical conclusion; so that when the world speaks of India, it does not do so only in terms of a resplendent past but as a present to reckon with and a future to look forward to.”
He said that the rich history of the Lawrence School had given the students a vast lineage of traditions and values. He urged the students to build on that “robust foundation” so that society as a whole can progress and develop.
‘Spread gift of learning’
“You children are the fortunate recipients of a solid education, which as I can observe is a confluence of both academic and non-academic learning. This learning augmented by the independence that a boarding school imbibes in you is a rare gift. Take this gift of learning and spread it all around you, so that every single person who comes in contact with you too can reap its benefits,” said Mr. Mukherjee.
Earlier in the day, Mr. Mukherjee was welcomed at the helipad in Udhagamandalam by Governor in-charge C Vidyasagar Rao, Nilgiris District Collector, P Sankar and Rural Development and Municipal Administration Minister S P Velumani.
