BSNL launches 3G combo plans for tablet PCs

BSNL on Monday launched 3G combo plans for a new line of affordable tablet PCs in the Tamil Nadu and Chennai telecom circles.

As part of a tie-up with Goa-based telecom equipment manufacturer, Teracom Limited, BSNL is offering data plans and 3G dongles bundled with three variants of the ‘Lofty Tab’ in the Rs. 3,999 to Rs. 10,999 price range.

As part of a promotional offer running till October 15, the Tablets, data cards and 3G connection would be available for a roughly 20 per cent discount.

The partners expect the combination of these low-cost innovative devices and 3G services of BSNL to trigger demand in cities but also penetrate the rural markets. All the Tablet PCs are powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

The entry level Tablet TZ300 is a ‘Value for Money’ product, which offers 7-inch resistive touch screen WiFi, 3G Dongle Support, WiFi Hotspot, 4 GB Internal Storage (32 GB expandable memory), 512 MB RAM, Front Camera and Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, PDF).The mid-level TZ200 offers a 7 inch Multi Touch Capacitive screen, Wi-Fi Connectivity, Cortex A8 1.2GHz Processor, WiFi, 3G Dongle Support, 4 GB Internal Storage (expandable to 32 GB), 512 MB RAM, HDMI Port, Office and front camera.

The top-end version TZ100 comes with built in SIM card slot up to 7.2 Mbps, 7 inch Multi Touch Capacitive Screen with 1024 x 600 resolutions, a Cortex A9 Processor of 1GHz with internal storage of 4GB along with an expandable slot of 32 GB. Other features include dual camera for 3G/2G video calling.

“We are looking to launch more models and work on regional language support in addition to the English and Hindi that we now have,” said Puneet Jain, Teracom senior vice-president. sTeracom is also ramping up post-sale support in Tamil Nadu as part of plans to scale up from 120 points to about 550 over the next few months, he said.

M.A. Khan and A. Balasubramanian, BSNL Chief General Managers of Tamil Nadu and Chennai Circles, launched the devices by handing over the tablets to actor Sandhya.

The tablets will be available at BSNL franchise stores and can also be purchased off e-commerce sites.
