Sivagiri police have arrested a brick kiln worker for sexually assaulting and murdering a widow.

The police said P. Meenakshi (52), a widow from Pulipaaraipatti near Alangulam in Virudhunagar district, used to come to Devipattinam to visit her parents.

When she came to her native place on Saturday, she went out to meet a stranger and never returned.

Against this backdrop, the body of Meenakshi was found lying in VOC Street in Devipattinam on Sunday morning.

During investigation, Sivagiri police found that Meenakshi, who had developed an affair with V. Guruputhiran (43) of Devipattinam, had gone to meet him.

After sexually assaulting her, Guruputhiran murdered her and dumped the body in the street, the police said.
