Breach in irrigation tank, crops damaged

A breach in the irrigation tank in Aagaram village near Arani left vast tracts of land damaged.

The bund of the ‘big tank’ in Aagaram village was breached near the sluice on Friday. The resultant flood submerged vast tracts of turmeric, sugarcane crops that are fed by the tank. PWD Water Resource Organisation officials and revenue officials rushed to the spot and arrested the breach using sand bags and boulders and with the help of villagers. However, huge volume of water stored in the tank during the last monsoon is lost, sources said. – Staff Reporter
