Boy’s death triggers protest in Tirupur

January 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - Tirupur:

The death of S. Suresh (7), a resident of R.V.G. Nagar under Corporation ward 21 limits, after being hospitalised with high fever, had triggered protests with the residents of the area resorting to road block agitation here on Friday.

The people alleged that lack of proper mosquito control measures by the Corporation officials had caused the death of the boy, with symptoms resembling dengue.

Suresh was referred from a private hospital, where he was admitted with fever on January 25, to a Coimbatore hospital where he died on January 28.

When contacted, City Health Officer R. Selvakumar told The Hindu that the boy’s death was following Sepsis, a blood poisoning condition subsequent to bacterial infection in organs, and not by any virus.

“Overall, the Corporation administration has been carrying out mosquito control measures, but the death of Suresh occurred only due to bacterial infection and not by virus,” he clarified.

Earlier, Deputy Director of Public Health R. Ragupathy confirmed that tests conducted on Suresh had ruled out dengue.
