In a tragic accident, a two-year-old boy died on the spot after a school van ran him over, in Thammampatti here on Thursday.
On Thursday, Madhankumar (2), son of Jeyavelan and Abinaya of Nehru Nagar, was run over after he managed to get under the wheel of a van his sister Jeyashree (3) was going to school.
As Abinaya was focussing on getting her daughter on the van, unnoticed by her, the boy had crawled under the wheel. When the driver Subramani moved the van, the boy was crushed under the wheel and died on the spot.
The body was taken to the Government Hospital in Attur for post mortem examination.
Thammampatti police registered a case under Section 304A (causing death by negligence) of IPC. The driver was arrested and produced in the court and lodged at the sub-jail in Attur.
