A 13-year-old boy was gored to death by a bull that took part in a ‘jallikattu’ (bull taming sport), organised as part of St. Antony’s church festival at Thavachimadai in Dindigul district on Saturday.

Police identified him as K. Sivakumar of Emakalapuram.

According to P. Ramesh, Honorary Animal Welfare Officer of Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI), the boy was standing near a hotel, situated around 100 metres from the arena.

“When the bull attempted to enter the hotel, the employees chased it away. The bull then stamped on a dosa pan, which broke. One of the broken pieces hit the boy on his head and he collapsed on the spot. Then, the bull butted him behind his head,” Mr. Ramesh added.
