January 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - TIRUNELVELI:

Following the death of a 9-year-old boy at Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital with suspected symptoms of dengue, the district administration has further intensified anti-dengue operations in the western region of the district, bordering Rajapalayam in Virudhunagar district, where a few dengue deaths were reported in the recent past.

Sources in the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital said S. Rahul (9) of Seithur near Rajapalayam died at TVMCH on Sunday with symptoms of dengue. “So far, six patients from Rajapalayam region, who were admitted to the TVMCH in critical condition with dengue symptoms have died,” the sources said. More thrust is being given for anti-dengue operations at Kadayanallur that witnessed the worst outbreak in 2009 and consequent death of over 50 dengue patients.

Dean, TVMCH, L.D. Thulasiram, said the doctors of TVMCH gained vast experience in treating dengue patients following the previous outbreak at Kadayanallur.
