A woman gave birth to a boy in a moving ambulance of 108 Emergency Service, just 100 feet away from her house at Alamarathuveedhi near Marapallam in the city limits. Yasmin (22) complained of labour pain as soon as the ambulance started moving towards the Government Headquarters Hospital, located about 1.5 km away, and the emergency medical technician saw through the normal delivery on the spot.

Both mother and child were subsequently admitted in healthy condition to the Government Headquarters Hospital. Yasmin and Manjunathan, a painter, whose wedlock was stated to be a love marriage, already have a son.

According to Ganesh, management executive, 108 Emergency Service, there were 56 child deliveries in the ambulances last year.

The ambulances were equipped with emergency drugs to be administered before and after delivery, and delivery kit with surgical knife, scissors, and clothing for mother and baby, he said.
