Rajya Sabha MP and Secretary of the academic sessions for the World Classical Tamil Conference, Kanimozhi, on Saturday said that designing and executing works for the first phase of the botanical garden on Jail Grounds had begun and the pace was being expedited.

Ms. Kanimozhi, along with Floats Procession Committee Chairman and Transport Minister K.N. Nehru and Accommodations Committee Chairman and Rural Industries Minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy visited VOC Park Grounds and inspected ongoing works.

Ms. Kanimozhi told reporters that the Chief Minister has carefully scrutinised the proposals and had chosen the themes for the floats to represent the Tamil culture, literature and rich legacy.

The float procession had been named “Iniyavai Narpathu”.

Mr. Nehru said that to facilitate easy movement of passengers, 1,000 special buses would be operated to Coimbatore from various districts. To enable visitors to commute across the city easily, special shuttle services would be operated in large numbers from various parts of the city to the mofussil bus stands.
