Vivekanandan (43) of Solaiyur near Jolarpet, who was riding a motorcycle, was killed when his vehicle fell into a 10-foot-deep roadside pit near the railway gate in Parsmapettai in Jolarpet police station limits on Wednesday night.
According to the police, Vivekanandan, who had taken the contract for drilling a borewell for the Jolarpet Municipality, was returning home after purchasing a hammer for his work when the accident occurred. Since he did not return home on Wednesday night his wife Oviya and other relatives searched for him but in vain. When passers-by informed of the sighting of a body in the pit near the railway gate, Oviya was taken by the police to the spot where she identified the body as that of her husband.
