Book festival begins

July 17, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - THANJAVUR:

Book festivals where avid readers could lay their hands on various titles and subjects provide the food for those hungry for reading more. The Thanjavur Book Festival is one such avenue for the delta readers who could make full use of the opportunity, District Collector N. Subbaiyan said here on Friday.

Speaking after declaring open the Thanjavur Book Festival, Dr. Subbaiyan pointed out that the Thanjavur Rajah Serfoji's Saraswati Mahal Library, Tamil University, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, Tourism Development Council, BAPASI and the district administration have joined hands to conduct the book festival which could one day become an integral identity of the history-steeped Thanjavur lore. Noting that the book festival would run up to July 25, Dr. Subbaiyan called upon the public to utilise the opportunity for buying books on a range of subjects. The fest would be of use to school and college students, he added.

Superintendent of Police R. Sudhakar, Tourism Officer Rajasekaran, BAPASI office-bearers were present.
