The newly established boat house at Jedarpalayam check dam that was inaugurated by Chief Minister through video conferencing on March 2 is yet to be thrown open for public use thereby disappointing the tourists.

The check dam across the River Cauvery in Kabilarmalai panchayat union is a major tourist attraction for people from Namakkal, Erode, Salem and Karur districts. With tourists demanding more amenities, the government sanctioned Rs. 3.64 crore for establishing boating facility, constructing bathrooms, and laying circular road at Anna Park.

Work was undertaken and was completed. The boating facility was inaugurated by the Chief Minister before the election date was announced.

However, two months after inauguration, the facility is yet to be opened for the public.

It is said that works such as construction of staircases to reach the boats were yet to be completed and hence tourists were not allowed to use the facility.

Also, boating charges were not fixed and supervisors were not appointed to oversee the boat house.

Tourists who come in large numbers during summer vacations are disappointed over the non-functioning of the boat house. They want the facility to be opened before summer vacation ends.
