Four persons standing outside a godown in which fire crackers and chemicals were stored at Consalpet in Mullipalayam here were injured when the roof made of corrugated iron sheets blew off and fell on them following an explosion. The building also crumbled in the explosion, which took place when the licensed godown was locked owing to a holiday.

Shabeer, the owner of the godown, used to make crackers for funerals inside the building, where he had stored raw materials and chemicals in a wooden bureau. The chemicals kept in the bureau exploded owing to intense heat.

Two of the injured were treated as outpatients at the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital and the other two at the Christian Medical College Hospital, Vellore.
