Bharatiya Janata Party’s Tamil Nadu unit is organising protests across the State as an effort to make people understand who is responsible for the steep rise in prices of essential commodities, said L. Ganesan.
Addressing a press meet here on Sunday, he said that it is not a new phenomenon; whenever Congress comes to power prices go up.
When Morarji Desai and Atal Bihari Vajpayee were in power there was no price rise or rather it was controlled well, he opined. He said that the Government should withdraw the hike in fuel prices.
Mr. Ganesan alleged that forward trading of essential commodities resulted in 99 per cent speculative trading while the actual delivery was one per cent.
Commodity exchange ‘scam’
The major benefactors here were corporate houses, speculators and multinational corporations who make profits to the extent of 500 to 2,900 per cent. BJP sees a commodity exchange ‘scam’ behind this whole issue of price rise.
