Virtually ruling out an alliance with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in the forthcoming assembly elections, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National secretary H. Raja said the BJP would approach the 2016 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu as National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
“Irrespective of who are all in the NDA in Tamil Nadu, the BJP will approach the 2016 Assembly elections as NDA,” he said talking to reporters here on Thursday. “I do not know who will continue with NDA or who will join the NDA ahead of the Assembly elections,” he said. Asked whether he was ruling out an alliance with the AIADMK, he said “I would not want to add anything more to what I said.”
He said the BJP-led NDA had secured 19 per cent votes in the Lok Sabha elections and most of the votes were cast for the then Prime Ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi.
Claiming that the BJP enjoyed a conducive atmosphere in the State, he said the BJP was the preferred third front in the State. Through the missed call drive alone, the party had enrolled about 40 lakh members in Tamil Nadu, he added.
Detailing the Centre’s investments in Tamil Nadu, he said the Modi government had invested Rs. 14,400 crore for the second phase expansion of Tuticorin port and another Rs. 10,000 crore for widening the National Highways as four lane highways.
Besides, the Centre has sanctioned an industrial corridor at Ennore, All India Medical Sciences Hospital to the State. It had made two Tamils as Governors and given ministerial berths to Pon. Radhakrishnan and Nirmala Seetharaman.
Also, the Centre has allocated 12 smart cities for Tamil Nadu, which returned only one MP compared to 13 smart cities for Uttar Pradesh, which returned 73 MPs. “This is Modi sarkar’s windfall in Tamil Nadu,” he said.
