BJP leaders to tour Tamil Nadu this week

BJP veterans will criss-cross the State campaigning for the party candidates and allies this week.

The party’s prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, will begin his campaign with a public meeting in the South Chennai constituency, contested by party veteran L. Ganesan, on Sunday evening, P. Muralidhar Rao, party’s national general secretary, told reporters here.

This would be the first time after the BJP formed a rainbow alliance comprising Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam, Pattali Makkal Katchi, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Indhiya Jananayaka Katchi and Kongunadu Makkal Desia Katchi. Mr. Modi would return again on April 16 and 17. His tentative schedule covers various constituencies, mostly in the western and southern districts. He would address public meetings in places such as Erode, Coimbatore and Krishnagiriin support of party candidates and those of allies, Mr. Rao said.

Veteran leader L.K. Advani and party president Rajnath Singh would campaign from April 18, but their itinerary has not been finalised.

Senior leaders M. Venkaiah Naidu and Mukthar Abbas Naqvi would also campaign in the State.
