May 24, 2014 02:39 am | Updated November 17, 2021 04:09 am IST - NAGERCOIL:

State president of the Bharatiya Janata Party Pon. Radhakrishnan has appealed to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to participate in the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi on May 26.

Speaking to reporters here on Friday, he said some people in the State were trying to create trouble by raising unnecessary issues. The UPA government headed by the Congress had betrayed the Tamils in Sri Lanka. But the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance would ensure the welfare of Tamils in Sri Lanka and fishermen in Tamil Nadu. From the beginning some vested interests were indulging in denigrating the image of Mr. Modi, he said.

Mr. Radhakrishnan said MDMK general secretary Vaiko was fully aware of the fact that the Modi gvernment would not betray the Sri Lankan Tamils.
