Reacting to BJP national secretary H. Raja’s tweet insinuating that DMK MP Kanimozhi was the “illegitimate child” of DMK president M. Karunanidhi, P. Muralidhar Rao, national general secretary of the BJP, stated that such remarks did not represent BJP’s views and neither were they in line with the party’s culture. Mr. Rao tweeted his response on Thursday.

Following Governor Banwarilal Purohit’s press conference, Mr. Raja had asked through a tweet whether journalists would raise tough questions about the illegitimate child of a Tamil Nadu politician. Mr. Raja's remarks had drawn flak from various political parties and the DMK held protests.

Mr. Rao’s tweet was retweeted by BJP State president Tamilisai Soundararajan, who had reacted on the microblogging site the previous day stating that she was saddened by the attack on women in public life.
