BJP asks parties to spell out stand on police operation

BJP leader appeals to all Chief Ministers to ignore Union Home Minister’s letter

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday urged political parties to spell out their stand on the special operation of the Tamil Nadu police in which three terror suspects – ‘Police’ Fakruddin, Panna Ismail and Bilal Malik – were arrested.

Wondering why political parties were not coming forward to appreciate the police, BJP State president Pon. Radhakrishnan said the silence was not a healthy trend.

“I condemn this attitude of political parties in not appreciating the good work of the police. I appeal them to at least give their views…the suspects had planned to attack many leaders of Hindu organisations. They had also conspired to attack a religious procession.”

He said the letter of Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde asking State governments not to book innocent Muslim youth in cases deserved no merit as the police arrested suspects only on the basis of prima facie evidence.

“Whether the accused is guilty or not has to be proved in the court of law. Why single out Muslims youth…why not others. I appeal to all Chief Ministers to ignore this letter of Mr. Shinde,” he said.

Former AIADMK MLA S.Ve. Shekher joined the BJP on Tuesday.
