A day-long census of birds arriving at the birds sanctuary at Kodiyakarai near here was taken up by the Forest Department officials on Saturday.
Assisted by a group of 53 students, five faculty members, and 15 Forest personnel conducted the survey.
According to Forest officials, the sanctuary has attracted a large number of birds this season.
The census formed an annual feature.
It focussed on the arrival of new birds and the increase in the strength of the birds with regard to previous year’s records.
