Bins given to tourists

November 26, 2016 12:00 am | Updated December 02, 2016 05:39 pm IST - SALEM:

Bins were distributed to tourists to Yercaud on Friday so as to prevent them from dumping wastes along road sides.

District Forest Officer R. Kiruba Shankkar inaugurated the project, Waste on Wheels (WOW), organised by JCI Salem Steel City on Friday.

The organisers said that the move would help save nature, and animals of the Shevaroyan Hills.

The bins can be used in vehicles to dump the wastes and later could be disposed at waste bins placed at Yercaud, they said.

Plastic wastes dumped along the Ghat Road was consumed by monkeys, and other animals resulting in their death besides degrading the environment.

The bins carrying the message "Don't throw it outside, throw it in" was distributed free of cost to the tourists.
