In a bid to streamline tender processes adopted by various agencies for implementing schemes, the State government introduced and passed a Bill in the Assembly on Thursday that seeks to suitably amend the Tamil Nadu Transparency in Tenders Act, 1998, for efficient handling of the tender processes.
The Bill that was introduced by the Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, also handling the finance portfolio, sought to define the term ‘service’ in the Act and provide for various procedures to be followed during the tender process. E-tender, outsourcing of procurement, and opting for a government e-Marketplace are some provisions of the Bill.
‘Adopt U.P. model’
When the Bill was taken for consideration after it was introduced by the Deputy Chief Minister, DMK member K. Pitchandi brought to the notice of the State government the process followed in Uttar Pradesh and said that it could be considered. Besides the Tamil Nadu Transparency in Tender Act, the Tamil Nadu Appropriation Bill, 2018;the Tamil Nadu Appropriation Bill (Vote on Account) Bill, 2018; the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Bill 2018; and the Tamil Nadu Private Clinical Establishments (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2018, were passed.
