A Bill seeking to further amend the Tamil Nadu Advocates Welfare Fund Act, 1987, (Tamil Nadu Act 49 of 1987) was introduced in the Assembly, to enhance the financial assistance paid to the nominee or legal heir of a member of the Tamil Nadu Advocates Welfare Fund.

The bill introduced by N.R. Sivapathy, Minister for School Education, Sports and Youth Welfare, Law, Courts and Prison, said the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry had resolved to enhance the assistance from Rs two lakh to five lakh.

“To meet the additional expenditure, the Bar Council has recommended to increase value of the Advocate Welfare Fund Stamp, the membership admission fee, the annual subscription and life time subscription. The government decided to accept the recommendation and to amend the Act,” he said.
