The body of a man was thrown on a service road near Konavattam bridge near here by two persons riding a motorcycle on Tuesday. They escaped when they were chased by a policeman when he noticed them.

Thangavelu, a constable attached to Konavattam police station, was returning home after night duty when he saw the bike riders going past him.

Three persons were on the bike, but the feet of a man in the centre was touching the road, which made him suspicious, the police said.

Soon they were followed by another motorcycle. The constable immediately started chasing them.

On seeing him, the culprits throw the body and abandoned their vehicles near Thideer Nagar and disappeared into a nearby area.

The body was sent to hospital. Meanwhile, the Sathuvachari police station received a complaint that Govindan (42) of Indira Nagar, a labourer, was held captive by his relative Thangaraj for ransom.

The complainants identified the body thrown on the service road to be that of Govindan. The police are investigating.
