March 10, 2010 02:14 am | Updated 02:14 am IST - KANCHEEPURAM:

Several welfare schemes implemented by the Union government have just replicated schemes conceived and executed by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi much earlier, according to Tiruvallur Panchayat Union Chairman V.S. Shanmugham.

He was addressing a meeting to mark the inauguration of the five-day Public Information Campaign – “Bharath Nirman” — organised by the Press Information Bureau at Tiruvallur on Tuesday.

People should utilise such programmes to get themselves aware of various schemes implemented by the Union and State governments, he added.

Inaugurating the event, District Revenue Officer S.Somasundaram said workshops on topics such as on Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Right to Information Act, Youth Welfare and Employment and Public Health and Sanitation would also be held as part of the campaign. The Additional Director General, PIB, Chennai, K.M.Ravindran, participated.
