Bharat Kalachar awardees include Kamal, T.V. Sankaranarayanan

The Bharat Kalachar on Thursday announced its list of awardees for 2009 and the awards will be presented on December 11, the inaugural day of the 23rd Margazhi Mahotsav.

According to a press release from Bharat Kalachar Chairman Mrs. Y.G.Parthasarathy and secretary Y.Gee.Mahendra, vocalist T.V.Sankaranarayanan will be conferred the Gnana Kala Bharathi award for his outstanding service in the field of classical Carnatic music.

Actor Kamal Hassan will get Viswa Kala Bharathi for his outstanding performance in the field of Tamil cinema and dance which won him global recognition.

Others who have been selected for various awards for their outstanding contribution to the fields in which they are involved are: Sonal Mansingh (Viswa Kala Bharathi-Odissi Dance), B.Saroja Devi (Natya Kaladhar-Tamil cinema), K.S. Raghuram (Natya Kaladhar-Choreography in films), Prof.C.V. Chandrasekhar (Acharya Kala Bharathi-Bharathanatyam), S.V. Ramanan (Kala Seva Bharathi-Documentary films and TV serials), V.S. Raghavan (Nadaka Kala Bharathi-Tamil Drama) and Sri Chithralaya Gopu (Hasya Kala Bharathi-Tamil Drama and Cinema).

Those who have been selected for Yuva Kala Bharathi awards are: Amrutha Sankaranarayanan and Bharat Sundar (Carnatic vocal), Saindhavi (devotional vocal), Atira Krishna (violin), M.R.Srikrishnan (mridhangam) Nagai Sriram (mridhangam in bharathanatyam), Aishwarya Dhanush, Yatin Agarwal, Gopu Kiran, Mridula Anand and Lakshmi Parthasarathi Athreya (bharathanatyam), Kapila Venu (Kutiyattam), Smitha Madhav (all rounder in classical Carnatic and bharathanatyam and Ayyapath Girish (Drama).

Thavil player S.Senthilkumar will get a special commendation award.
