Mellowing its earlier rigid stance, the Karnataka government told the Supreme Court on Tuesday that it will hold elections for municipal wards of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) within three months. A three-judge bench of Chief Justice of India H.L. Dattu and Justices S.A. Bobde and Arun Mishra took on record the government’s submission, while setting aside an April 24 order of the High Court of Karnataka. “In the peculiar facts and circumstances of the case, the Division Bench order of the HC is set aside and the decision by the single judge is restored,” the bench said.
The Division Bench of the High Court had on April 24 refused to interfere in the government’s decision to appoint an administrator at the BBMP.
